Although I may get shot and killed for saying this... ballet is definitely not a dance form that I at all enjoy. Most likely due to what the ballerinas wear.
However, there was a news story that intrigued me on many levels. It was about a ballerina called Jenifer Ringer.
Ringer had been much like a lot of girls that were influenced by culture. They felt that the only way to have worth, the only way to be noticed, the only way to be appreciated was to be skinny.... really skinny. It's like continual battle to be somebody that you aren't and in the end you walk into a room of people and you still feel fat. Ringer was one of those girls who struggled with anorexia and it still wasn't enough. To a woman like that, you can imagine how cutting it would be to hear "she looked like she ate one sugar plum too many".
There was something that intrigued me and that was that she didn't want an apology. She quietly accepted the criticism. She wasn't living for that kind of praise anymore. She wasn't ruled by people's opinions of what she looked like. She was comfortable being who she was and would not change that to cater to the unreasonable and unhealthy views of the public.
Even though it's difficult with the overwhelming messages of the media, women need to take a stand to nourish their own unique beauty. It doesn't mean we have a free ticket to not take care of ourselves. It means that its time to stop trying to be somebody else and instead be the beautiful woman that God created.
And about that ever prevalent question of... don't guys just want skinny girls? Well, I guess you are just going to have to wait for the guy that will see you like how God sees you.

If a man only wants someone who fits a narrow weight range, you probably don't want him. Most of the guys I've talked to want women who are comfortable with their bodies. No one wants to be with someone who obsesses over their weight! It's important to take care of yourself though. Just love where you are at (as long as it's healthy) and someone will love you for who you are.
I would rather marry someone who is comfortable with who they are in Christ and that doesn't constantly worry about how they physically look than someone who is skinny but is always conscious about their weight. Just my opinion. Caitlin hit the nail on the head.
